| OUR
SERVICES
We offer a wide
yet limited range of services in order to create your new dazzling smile.
All dazzling smiles start off with a solid
foundation. Just like you wouldn’t want to have your house
built on a sand foundation, we do not want to rejuvenate your smile
on a shaky and unstable foundation. The foundation to which we are referring
to is the bone support around your teeth as well as the health of your
gum tissue. With that said, we offer an extensive
range of gum therapy from a simple cleaning to a laser soft tissue
management program or any combination in between which will hopefully
prevent you from requiring any surgical intervention in the future.
Once the gum foundation is healthy we make sure that
your “bite” foundation is healthy.
Your teeth are part of your skeletal system and they are connected to
your jawbone (mandible) which is one of the 206 bones in your body.
Your jawbone is connected to your head by your temporomandibular joints
(TMJ’s). These joints (one on the left and one on the right, just
in front of your ears) are the most complex joints in our bodies. They
simultaneously function together in 3 dimensions – up and down,
back and forward, and left and right. The way in which your teeth come
together dictates the position of your jaw joints. When your teeth come
together they are in “occlusion”. If the teeth don’t
come together the proper way you have a condition called “malocclusion”
which literally means “bad bite”. So, if the teeth are improperly
positioned this can lead to an improperly positioned jawbone and an
improperly positioned jawbone can lead to improperly positioned TMJ
joints which in turn can lead to an unhealthy foundation – which
is what we want to avoid during a smile makeover. The positioning of
the teeth, jawbone and TMJ’s cannot be accomplished without the
musculature surrounding these structures coming into play and this is
where the realm of neuromuscular dentistry takes over.
Finally, once the gums and jaw joints are determined
to be relatively disease free and healthy, then we can begin to restore
your smile. This is accomplished in several ways: thin glass-like
facings for the teeth called veneers, full coverage restorations called
crowns/caps and restorations that replace already missing teeth called
bridges. Many times a tooth can be repaired with a relatively conservative
restoration called an inlay/onlay which is made by taking out an old
filling, removing the cavity under that filling, removing any weak tooth
structure and leaving behind everything that is good. Then the inlay/onlay
is placed into the tooth at a second visit (you wear a temporary inlay/onlay
for 2 weeks). It is like placing a puzzle piece into your tooth.
