There are 140,000 dentists in the country and only 60 clinical instructors at LVI. He is in the top 99% of dentists who possess the technical as well as interpersonal skills that it takes to teach his peers the art form of cosmetic dentistry. He has and always will feel privileged and honored that he was chosen as one of the 60 clinical instructors at the Institute. He has also been a general member of the AACD (American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry) for the past 5 years, as well as a member of the ADA (American Dental Association) CDA (Colorado Dental Association) and MDDS (Metropolitan Denver Dental Society) for the past 11 years. His integrity and professional credentials are impeccable as evidenced by his NOT having any history of complaints or adverse State Dental Board action taken against him. Personal statement by Cosmetic Dentist Dr. Belenski What is the Smile Spa? How did it come about and why does it exist today? These are three questions that seem very straightforward at first but in reality they are very complex. In September of 1998 a dentist/visionary by the name of Dr. Bill Dickerson, founder of the world-renowned LVI (Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies), and company were in Denver, Colorado giving a series of presentations. Emphasis was placed on how the practice of dentistry can be so much more different and so much more personally rewarding from the traditional way in which it has been practiced since the beginning of time. This one full-day presentation by Dr. Dickerson forever changed my life. For 7 years, September 1991 to September 1998 I practiced dentistry in the widely accepted model of “traditional” practice. It was heavily insurance dependent and provided window dressing customer service. During this time frame dentistry was no longer a challenge nor did it provide me very much personal satisfaction. I was very unhappy and the insurance empire was continually destroying the little good that I thought I was doing. I felt as if I was working for them and not my patients. From January 1999 to present I took just about every course that there was to take at LVI. Each course added to my technical as well as management skills – but still something was missing. What I found out was missing was the simple fact that just because I had this new wealth of knowledge, it didn’t mean that all of my existing patients or staff would feel as passionately about this change as I did myself. Rather than trying to convince my existing patients that I was a different and better dentist as well as convincing a multitude of staff members that they can practice dentistry on a whole new level – I decided to create the Smile Spa, specializing in cosmetic dentistry.
